West Mekan aims to be a competitive supplier of passenger seats and other furniture for buses, minibuses, ferries, passenger boats and fast catamarans. The following requirements have been the foundation of the development process for these seats:

• To comply with the regulations in force at any and all times
• Good seating comfort for everyone regardless of (body) build
• Low weight, for weight-critical applications
• Affordable and simple maintenance
• Simple and quick installation
• Flexible solutions

To meet these requirements, aluminum has been used exclusively in our seating designs, in the shape of profiles. This has enabled us to optimize the use of materials with regards to both strength and quantity, making our seats among the lightest available on the market. Depending on model, weight per seat is a mere 8 to 12.5 kg with no additional equipment installed. The use of aluminum has also made the seating designs highly flexible, so that they can be adapted to fit most applications.

As of today, most of our seats are type approved by the DNV (Det Norske Veritas AS) classification company, and are tested according to these conditions:

• ECE R.80 - approval of seats of large passenger vehicles
• The EU's directives for class M2 minibuses and class M3 buses
• The International code for High-Speed Craft, HSC-code.36. Design level 0-12G.
• Fire requirements according to IMO res. A.652 (16)
